About South Carolina

South Carolina's surf scene splits into three hubs: the Charleston Area (Sullivan's Island, Isle of Palms, and Folly Beach) with the iconic Washout, the pier-dominated Grand Strand from Cherry Grove south through Myrtle Beach to Pawleys Island, and the south-facing Hilton Head Island near the GA border. Hurricane season (Sep–Nov) is the prime window — tropical systems offshore in the Atlantic deliver clean overhead groundswell; Nor'easters add mid-period NE swell through winter. The rest of the year is small wind-driven surf, with morning glass-offs the daily target. Water is warm enough to boardshort from May through October.
