Wanning Coast

Hainan's east-facing surf hub, anchored by Riyue Bay (Sun & Moon Bay) — China's most recognized surf venue and home to WSL Asia events. The main right peels off the headland into Sun Wen Beach below the surf complex. Shimei Bay and Moon Bay continue the beach-break coast north with quieter alternatives, while Boao at the far north faces NE and picks up the winter monsoon when Riyue is too south-blocked. Best on summer-fall typhoon SE swell (Aug-Nov); NE monsoon (Dec-Mar) keeps the coast lit through the winter. Water 22-29°C year-round, boardshorts most of the year with a 2mm shoulder for cooler weeks.
